The Internet Society Uganda Chapter in partnership with the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology Uganda shall host the 9th Uganda Internet Governance Forum (UIGF) scheduled for August 11, 2015, under the theme “Internet as an Engine for Development in Uganda”.
The half- day forum which will be held at the Uganda Bureau of Statistics House Conference Hall is a multi-stakeholder event that brings together representatives from government, civil society, academia, private sector and individuals interested in discussion on how the Internet is shaped and run in Uganda.
The objectives of the UIGF are to: Establish IG issues relevant to the Uganda; Build a consensus on national and regional positions around relevant IG issues and create awareness about various IG issues including online safety in Uganda especially among vulnerable users.
The 2015 Forum seeks to address topics including: Internet cost/bundling in Uganda; IPv6 road map in Uganda; Legal and regulatory frameworks impacting internet usage; Cyber security including addressing violence against women online, child online protection, and cyber fraud; Data protection and privacy in the era of internet of things; .ug ccTLD management; Internet infrastructure and innovation and the need for local content.
Proceedings from the Forum will be captured and shared at the East Africa Internet Governance Forum (EAIGF) set for September 24 -25 in Kampala, Uganda.
