The internet continues to be a reliable source of information for many people in Uganda and world over. The reliance on social media in society today makes the internet a valuable medium that has greatly impacted society’s ability to communicate, form relationships, access and spread information, and make best decisions. This dependence hits hard for younger users who struggle to deal with the challenges in copying with the dangers it brings.
Many younger users fall victim to online abuses like cyber bullying, hate speech, harassment and do not know where to report and how to handle such. This increased vulnerability undermines the ability for someone to enjoy freely the benefits that come with being connected online that’s why online safety awareness is very crucial and important.
To address these challenges, the Internet Society Uganda Chapter in partnership with Ambrosoli International school on February 11th 2020 joined the world over to celebrate Safer Internet Day 2020 under the theme “Together for a better internet.”
Among the activities held was a fun filled -session with pupils and parents on how they can safeguard their online safety.
The chapter also shared the Child online toolkit with parents and teachers as a collective effort to ensure online safety for all.
