Ashaba Nebert is an IT specialist and digital inclusion activist who champions fair digital rights, Internet for all and equitable technology access and distribution. He has a background in Information technology and Computer Science. He is a seasoned network operations engineer in the field of IP core with over 4 years of extensive hands-on experience in managing Internet Service Provider (ISP) core and distribution routing and switching technologies of major vendors. He currently works as a Technical Support Engineer with Sprint Internet (U) Limited, a regional ISP providing Internet connectivity and related ICT services to businesses in East Africa.
He has also previously worked as a Network Operations Engineer at the Research and Education Network for Uganda (RENU), a National Research and Education Network providing Internet connectivity and related services to the research and education community in Uganda. He was responsible for setting up and monitoring Internet connectivity that powers Uganda’s research and education member institutions. Before joining RENU, Nebert also worked as a Quality Control Engineer at Huawei Technologies (U) Co., Ltd., an original telecom equipment manufacturer, where he was responsible for setting up and managing different live cellular networks for customers.
Nebert also has over 4 years of civil society experience in digital transformation through volunteering initiatives with organisations such as Internet Society – Uganda Chapter (ISOCUG), a local non-governmental organization championing equitable internet access and development in Uganda. Therefore, beyond his professional commitments, Ashaba dedicates his time to volunteering as a secretary for Special Interest groups at ISOCUG, showcasing his commitment to the betterment of Uganda’s digital landscape. His overarching mission is to employ ICT as a tool to solve everyday challenges faced in developing societies, showcasing his dedication to technology-driven innovation with a human touch.
Ashaba is a Computer Scientist and Digital Innovator who holds a Bsc. Computer Science from Makerere University
His current major focus areas and research interests are Internet measurements, low-cost communication technologies, ICT4Development and Internet-of-things for developing regions.
