Jesse Nathan Kalange is an IT specialist, and tech-savvy activist who champions digital rights, Internet for all and equitable technology distribution. He has a background in Information technology and computer science and over 5 years of civil society experience in digital transformation.

He is an ICANN Fellow, an ISOC Youth Ambassador, Digital Grassroots Ambassador, an alumnus of the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung Uganda Young Leaders Program, the Kectil Leadership Program, Theiworld Global Youth Ambassodor Program and the Feminature Camp Kennedy Extra Program.

Jesse currently serves as Chief Technology Officer and consultant on digital transformation at Otobox a non-profit organisation working to increase STEM education, digital rights, and ICT awareness among youth from underrepresented communities in Africa to produce robust, innovative, sustainable, and affordable solutions to global challenges. Otobox engages through innovation, open leadership, community engagement programs and mentorship and promote youth activism in shaping the future of STEM by driving digital transformation initiatives to improve access to technology resources.

Previously, Jesse worked as a Community Engagement Lead with Andela Uganda an American software development firm whose mission is to build Africa’s next generation of world class software engineers. He worked to solve a global technology talent shortage advance successful software engineering teams who engaged proactively with several company teams to provide remote services to businesses effectively.

Jesse is an active member of the Africa and Global IGF, the Internet Society global and Internet Society Uganda chapter since 2019 and co-founded the Uganda Youth Internet Governance Forum where he has been actively coordinating since 2020.

He is also a member of The ICT Association of Uganda where he has been a more influential personality in promoting youth inclusion in Internet Governance through advocacy for the rights of Internet Freedom with an aspiration to build global technology leaders.

He is passionate and interested in cybersecurity, Internet Governance, Internet Policy and regulation, child online safety, data privacy and protection, e-governance, ICT4D, Internet rights & freedom and as an experienced IT professional, he uses his skill sets to break complexities in the technology world through championing digital literacies and liberties for enhanced youth civic participation and emerging technologies adoption working to increase STEM education, digital rights, and ICT awareness among youth from underrepresented communities in Africa.

Jesse has worked with and supported several institutions and utilized his diverse skills to engage in exclusive mentorship and advocacy to mitigate and increase youth participation in technology initiatives including Digital Grassroots, The Open Internet for Democracy, the Internet Society Uganda Chapter, the ICT Association of Uganda, The Uganda Red Cross Society, Plan International Uganda and the United Nations Association of Uganda.

He is also a member of the Commonwealth Youth Peace Ambassadors Network, the International Advisory Board, (Uganda) of Civilizations Exchange and Cooperation Foundation (CECF)-USA, a member of (Idove) a program launched by the African Union and GIZ which aims to provide a youth-led platform for young peace builders to collaborate and foster creative approaches to Preventing Violent Extremism (PVE) drawing on the soft power of religion.
