2015 East Africa Internet Governance Forum

The Ministry of Information and Communications Technology Uganda together with the Internet Society Uganda Chapter is hosting the 7^th East African Internet Governance Forum (EAIGF) which will take place on September 24 – 25, 2015 at Imperial Royale Hotel, Kampala Uganda.

The one and half day meeting is a multi-stakeholder event that brings together representatives from government, civil society, academia, private and individuals interested in shaping discussion on how Internet is run in East Africa. The forum aims at creating a Community of Practice that will build a sustaining foundation for meaningful participation of East African stakeholders in Internet public policy debates at the national, regional and international level.

The forum will this year seek to address, among others the following:

• Connectivity and infrastructure development – including improving access to broadband
• Promoting local innovations through localization of internet tools, local content development and policy adoption;
• Development of legislative frameworks for information society;
• Cyber-security including managing national and regional Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT)/Computer Security Incident Response Team (CSIRT);
• Critical Internet resources; exhaustion of IPv4 apace and the transition to IPv6, country code Top Level Domains (ccTLDs), new generic Top Level Domains (gTLDs) and Internationalised Domain Names (IDNs);
• Representation, inclusiveness and participation through fostering collaboration of all national and regional stakeholders and
• Capacity building to promote skills growth and general awareness of Internet governance issues in the region
